Cure Fungal Acne with Simple Skincare

Last Updated on February 8, 2025 by Sezia

Fungal acne, also known as malassezia folliculitis, is a common skin condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is caused by an overgrowth of a yeast-like fungus called malassezia that normally lives on our skin. Malassezia feeds on certain types of fats, oils, and sugars that are found in many skincare products, cosmetics, and foods. When malassezia grows out of control, it can cause inflammation, itching, redness, and small bumps on the skin, especially on the forehead, chest, back, and shoulders.

I suffered from fungal acne for years and tried everything to get rid of it. I used harsh cleansers, scrubs, toners, masks, creams, and even prescription medications. Nothing worked. In fact, some of these products made my fungal acne worse by irritating my skin and feeding the fungus. I was frustrated, embarrassed, and hopeless.

Then I discovered Simple Skincare Science, a blog that changed my life. Simple Skincare Science is a website that provides evidence-based information on how to treat various skin conditions, including fungal acne. The author of the blog, f.c., is a former fungal acne sufferer who cured his own condition by using science-based methods and products. He shares his knowledge and experience with his readers in a clear, concise, and humorous way.

How Simple Skincare Science Helped Me Cure My Fungal Acne

I stumbled upon Simple Skincare Science one day when I was browsing the internet for fungal acne solutions. I was intrigued by the title of one of his articles: “How 50 People From Reddit and YOUTUBE Cleared Their Fungal Acne!”[^1^][2]. I clicked on it and started reading.

The article featured 50 success stories from people who had cured their fungal acne by following the advice and recommendations from Simple Skincare Science. They shared their before and after photos, their skincare routines, their product choices, and their tips and tricks. I was amazed by the results. Their skin looked clear, smooth, and glowing. They looked happy and confident.

I decided to give Simple Skincare Science a try. I read all the articles on the blog and learned everything I could about fungal acne. I realized that many of the products I was using were actually feeding the fungus and making my condition worse. I threw away all the products that contained ingredients such as fatty acids, oils, esters, polysorbates, ferments, sugars, alcohols, etc. I also stopped eating foods that were high in sugar, yeast, gluten, dairy, etc.

I ordered some of the products that were recommended by Simple Skincare Science from Amazon. I chose products that were affordable, effective, and gentle on my skin. Here are some of the products I used:

Routine

I followed a simple skincare routine twice a day: morning and night. Here is what I did:

  1. Wash my face with Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser using lukewarm water and gentle circular motions.
  2. Pat my face dry with a clean towel.
  3. Apply Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner with a cotton pad all over my face.
  4. Wait for 10 minutes until my face is completely dry.
  5. Apply Stridex Maximum Strength Medicated Pads all over my face (except around the eyes) using gentle circular motions.
  6. Wait for another 10 minutes until my face is completely dry.
  7. Apply The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum all over my face (except around the eyes) using gentle tapping motions.
  8. Wait for 5 minutes until the serum is absorbed.
  9. Apply Sebamed Clear Face Care Gel all over my face (except around the eyes) using gentle tapping motions.
  10. Wait for another 5 minutes until the gel is absorbed.
  11. Apply EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 sunscreen all over my face (except around the eyes) using gentle tapping motions.

In addition to this routine, I also used Nizoral A-D Anti-Dandruff Shampoo as a face mask twice a week. I applied a thin layer of the shampoo on my face (except around the eyes) and left it on for 10 minutes. Then I rinsed it off with lukewarm water and followed with the rest of my routine.

The Results

I started seeing results within a week. My skin felt smoother, softer, and less irritated. The redness and inflammation started to subside. The bumps started to shrink and disappear. My skin looked brighter, clearer, and more even.

After a month, my fungal acne was completely gone. I couldn’t believe it. I had tried so many products and treatments for years and nothing worked. But Simple Skincare Science did. It was like a miracle.

I continued to follow the same routine and products for another month to make sure that my fungal acne would not come back. It didn’t. My skin stayed clear, healthy, and beautiful.

I was so happy and grateful to Simple Skincare Science for curing my fungal acne. I felt more confident and comfortable in my own skin. I received compliments from my friends, family, and strangers on how good my skin looked. I smiled more and enjoyed life more.
